Artist Statement
I'm a mixed media artist which means anything, ANYTHING at all, shapes my work. Starting with the organic flow of paint, gradually imbedding textures of fiber and imagination, results in works of fantasy that take viewers thoughts on a personal ride. Originally a fiber artist turned mixed media artist, I find the use of texture emphasizes and deepens the work created. Touch and feel the texture in my works! Hands on for sure! As a former mental health professional, I create works that address our psychological processes: grief, pain, happiness, excitement, wonder, growth and virtually and emotion imaginable. See the vibrant colors flowing through my work? My thoughts are bright with movement and deflection, look away for a moment and another thought lights up. Art is a forever changing fluid process. Look closely and you will perhaps see a bit of yourself.
Artist Bio
Sue was already a recognized fiber artist and art quilter when she moved to Fort Lauderdale from rural upstate New York in 2014. Sue continues to incorporate her proclivity towards manipulation of textures along with psychological experience into her works. She continues her forward move towards mixed media art, while retaining her interest in manipulating fibers.
Sue has been actively involved in the arts and support of the arts in both upstate New York and in Fort Lauderdale. She served on the local Arts Council Board for many years while in New York State and is now a member of both ArtServe and FAB (Funding Arts Broward), both dedicated to supporting local arts and artists. Her mixed media pieces have been displayed in juried shows.
